Now that you have watched the above video and learned the process of creating a double exposure, it is your turn to try!
Your job will be to create 2 double exposure images.
Begin by taking 2 portrait photos in different poses with dramatic lighting. Remember, we are going to desaturate the photo in the end, so you should have dramatic lights and darks. However, make sure your model does not have any part of their head or torso blending into the background! I would recommend shooting with a white background behind the model so you can see the silhouette of all their features.
Your first double exposure should combine one of your portraits with a photo you personally took. This photo can be of almost anything, but I would recommend taking a picture of an environment for the best results. This can be a picture you have taken recently or from before this class, so long as you yourself took it!
Your second double exposure should combine one of the portraits you personally took with an image from Unsplash. Be sure to credit the original photographer underneath your final product so we know who took the photo you are using!
TIPS:
The backgrounds you are combining with the portraits you took should be creatively blended, and follow the natural lines of the face. Consider where the hair and other features are and try to accentuate those features using the blended background image. For example, in the tutorial you just watched, the photographer made the edge of the mountain peak form the edge of her forehead, and use the hair to look like clouds.
Consider texture as you are working. Hair should have more texture than skin, so make sure that shows through as you blend the images.
Try to match the values of both images. Dark parts of the portrait should be complimented with dark parts of the blended background image, while lighter parts of the portrait should show lighter parts of the background image
Please note that you do not have to follow the tutorial exactly! Feel free to take creative liberties and make these images your own. Much of your grade on this assignment is based on creativity and effort, so show me your best work and have fun with it!
Once you have finished both double exposures, post your final results on your website in a subpage called "Double Exposure."
