Just like a painter uses a brush to create art, photographers wield their cameras in a similar manner, creating art by freezing a moment in time. However, much like how a paintbrush requires paint to create an image, cameras require light to do the same! In fact, the art of photography can most simply be described as the art of light manipulation.
Lighting is the single most important part of photography because without it, we would be unable to create photos to begin with! Lighting, if used/created intentionally, can be used to establish mood and drama in a photo. It can also be used compositionally to draw your viewer's eye to certain parts of an image.
In this unit, you will learn all about the different types of lighting and how to use them effectively.
