Watch this video and take notes on the following:
For each of the 5 types of light, take notes on:
How that type of lighting is achieved
When it is used
What effect it has on the mood and/or the aesthetic of the model
Any other things he mentions that you think might be useful to remember
Choose THREE of your images from your lighting inspiration images and try to recreate them as closely as possible. These photos can be taken outside, inside, or in the studio set up
You will get points based on how closely you replicate the original shot, and must get the 3 original pictures ok'd with Ms. Jones first so she can make sure 1) it is possible with the tools we have, 2) it is high enough quality that replicating it will teach you something
You will EDIT all three images in Lightroom to try and get them to look even closer to the original.
You will WRITE a description that details the following:
What type/types of lighting are represented in each of your images?
What difficulties did you have while trying to replicate your photos? How did you correct/combat them?
What did you learn throughout this process?
What might you do differently next time?
Notes (10 Points)
Student has taken thorough notes on the 5 types of light video and answered all of the questions correctly.
Composition (20 Points)
Student uses the elements and principles of composition to create an aesthetically appealing shot.
Image has a clear focal point.
Lighting (20 Points)
The student has created 2 images that replicate lighting techniques of a chosen reference image. Each image the student created corresponds to a different reference image.
The images the student created are very similar to their references. The lighting direction, intensity, and color are all very similar to the original, and you can clearly see its influence in the new image
Editing (20 Points)
Both images have been edited to look as close to the original image as possible. The edited and unedited versions of the image are posted next to each other, along with the reference image
Images have been cropped nearly identically
Description (10 Points)
The student will write a description that details the following:
What type/types of lighting are represented in each of your images?
What difficulties did you have while trying to replicate your photos? How did you correct/combat them?
What did you learn throughout this process?
What might you do differently next time?
Creativity/Effort (20 Points)
The student clearly put a lot of thought and time into creating their images. The shots look well planned out and not rushed
Image is not blurry, over/underexposed, or low quality in any way
Images aren’t boring and show creative ingenuity. Student has thought outside the box to create some truly interesting shots
