Photos can often speak louder than words. Your job is to choose a moral or political issue that is important to you and represent your stance on it symbolically in a photograph.
You will be creating 1 photograph for this project. The image you create must be able to:
Convey what issue you are trying to call attention to
Use symbolic imagery and creativity to clearly display your opinions on the matter
Once you have your photo, edit it in Lightroom. Post your edited and non edited photos next to each other on your website.
At the bottom of your webpage, write a brief 3-6 sentence paragraph answering the following questions:
What issue did you choose for this image?
Why is it important to you?
How is this image meant to symbolise your chosen issue and your stance on it?
Keep in mind that this is still a project for High School, so avoid portraying content that is sexually/verbally explicit or grotesquely violent.
Photos & Symbolism (30 points)
Student has posted a photo on their website that creatively/symbolically represent their chosen issue
The student's stance on that issue is very apparent
Composition and Effort (40 points)
Student shows effort and forethought in their image. Student did not simply “point and shoot” to get a picture, the image was intentionally composed.
Student successfully "fills the frame," meaning they did not shoot from super far away or leave unnecessary and distracting details in the shot.
Photo is aesthetically appealing. It clearly makes use of the elements and principles of composition to look professionally taken.
Photo is high quality, meaning not blurry, hazy, under or over exposed, grainy, etc.
Editing (20 points)
The photo is well edited, meaning it is not over or under exposed/saturated, and add to the image rather than detract from it
Edits are used to enhance the mood and symbology of the image
Description (10 points)
Student has written a brief 3-6 sentence paragraph answering the following questions:
What issue did you choose for this image?
Why is it important to you?
How is this image meant to symbolise your chosen issue and your stance on it?
