What to know for November

Professional Development
From BOCES' technology department: Making Sense of Sharepoint and OneDrive: Find, Store, and Share the Right Way
You've probably heard about SharePoint, but have you ever wondered how it fits into your daily workflow? This hands-on session breaks down the fundamentals of SharePoint, focusing on key differences between storing files in OneDrive versus sharing them on a team SharePoint site. Participants will learn when to use each platform, how to navigate team sites, access shared resources, and find documents quickly without getting lost in the cloud.
From BOCES library services: Middle School Resource Essentials
This asynchronous professional learning module introduces the best digital library resources for middle school learners. Educators will explore age-appropriate content, search tools, and strategies for supporting inquiry-based learning using research databases. The resources align with the NYS Portrait of a Graduate by helping students develop critical thinking, effective communication, and the skills needed to become self-directed learners who can locate and evaluate reliable information. This course can be completed at any time between 10/19/26 and 12/28/26. All secondary schools in the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES will have access to these resources.
From BOCES library services: Empowering Young Readers with News-O-Matic
News‑O‑Matic is a dynamic, kid-friendly news platform designed to build literacy, encourage curiosity, and help students make sense of the world. With daily articles written at multiple reading levels, rich multimedia features, and powerful built‑in accessibility tools, it turns current events into meaningful learning opportunities for every child.
For my self-paced trainings, please note that I have changed the titles of some of them a little bit to try to market them better. If you are unsure if you've taken one before, please reach out to me!

Wayground Accommodations
Have you tried Wayground yet? One of the many awesome aspects of this resource is their focus on accessibility and flexibility via accommodations.
You can set up accommations at the activity level and at the student level. When you have a class in Wayground, you can determine which accommodations each student should receive, and those settings follow them from assessment to assessment. You can override any of those settings at the activity level whenever necessary! Check it out in the quick video below:

Lock of the Day is officially dead 💀
We had a good run. For a while, I was able to leverage Breakout EDU's "lock of the day" puzzles as a fun contest for students all year and for teachers for one month. Unfortunately Breakout EDU has tightened the screws on their resources and this is no longer possible. While the competition has been shut down for a while, I did have a few dedicated classes still plugging away. Unfortunately even that small amount of access is going away January 1st.
I am still able to search Breakout's library of escape room games and put together a game to run in a classroom if any teacher is interested, and have plenty of physical boxes and locks to share.
