What to know for April
1
Professional Development
I have relisted four in-service self-paced trainings for the rest of this school year: Intro to Magic School, Magic Student, Clipchamp, and Next Level: Exploring the Level Up Website. I have also listed three more full day trainings:
An Edtech Menu Tasting - April 8th from 8 am to 3 pm
Do you know all the technology resources available to you? It's okay if you don't- there are so many! This training will introduce you a wide variety of instructional technology and give you the time to put it to use right away
Nearpod: Bring Everything Together - April 23rd from 8 am to 3 pm
Nearpod is an interactive presentation tool that makes it easy to bring every piece of your lesson together and facilitate it with research-backed tools. This full day training will take you under the hood to learn everything Nearpod has to offer and give you the time to develop your own Nearpods that you can use right away.
NY's Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards - May 26th from 8 am to 3 pm
Stop wondering how to fit "one more thing" into your day and discover how you’re already crushing New York State’s Computer Science and Digital Fluency standards through the high-impact teaching you do every day. By demystifying the standards, we shift the focus from daunting technical requirements to a celebration of the creative, hands-on activities that naturally integrate into any grade level. Teachers will walk away with a refreshed connection between their current practices and the standards, as well as a toolkit of engaging, high-energy projects that transform these standards into some of the most memorable and fun moments of the school day.

DIR list now includes links
We recently acted on some feedback we received regarding the DIR list. Teachers wanted to be able to click a link right from the DIR list to be taken to the resource they were reading about. Ryan Oatridge worked hard to bring that idea to life and now it is live! Next to the column with the link is a column identifying the login method.

Magic School Song Generator
Magic School juuuuuuuuuuuust released (you get breaking news here, folks) a new song generator that generates ACTUAL songs, not just lyrics. Well, they generate 30 second musical clips. You can generate 5 songs a week (resets every Monday so put a reminder on your calendar for Fridays). You can choose a style from a dropdown menu, and there's space for custom instructions. Then it will generate the lyrics for you, which you can customize, and let you choose a voice for the song. After those revisions, the actual song and album art are generated. They are of okay quality, but if you really want to impress your students, your best bet is still Suno. You can download the song as an mp3, and when you open the tool in the future, you'll see a list of all your generated songs.

Securly Classroom
We are moving forward with a classroom device management tool by Securly, the same company we use for digital passes. This tool allows teachers to monitor student screens, push websites, lock student screens, share their screen with students, and much more. It's being purchased for the middle school and high school. The goal is to have access starting in April, but if prorated access can't be figured out, definitely by July 1st.
Learn a little more about it here: https://www.securly.com/site/assets/product-briefs/classroom.pdf and keep an eye out for future trainings!
