Canva is full of fun little secrets! Well, they're not exactly secrets but they kind of behave that way because there are too many to learn them all. Nested in that category is Bulk Create, a feature in Canva that behaves kind of like Mail Merge, letting you set up a template, connect data to it, and then mass create visual pages without having to copy and paste every thing yourself. Beautiful! Check it out below and tell me how you might use it.
For those who would prefer to read rather than watch, here's how Bulk Create works:
Gather some data into a Google spreadsheet or a Canva spreadsheet. This could be things like vocabulary terms and definitions, student names and interests, questions and answers, etc. Maybe you want to turn student responses to a question into "tweets" or something. You can even gather pictures as data!
Create a design in Canva that will serve as your template. Going back to the tweeting idea, you might design that template to look just like a fun tweet! Tweet tweet.
In the apps section of your lefthand navigation menu, you can search for "bulk create" or scroll down until you see it, and click to open the bulk create app
Next, choose your source of data. Do you have a Google spreadsheet or Canva spreadsheet?
Make sure the correct columns and rows are selected and then click "done"
Now you need to connect the different columns of data to specific elements on your template. For example, if you have some title text and that's where you want the vocabulary term to go, right click on that text to open the context menu and find the "connect data" option.
Choose the correct column of data that you've pulled in from your spreadsheet. Repeat this process for each element on your design that you want to act as a variable.
If you don't want certain bits of your data to make it into the bulk create design, uncheck them on the "apply data" page and then hit "create [number of] designs"
You now have a new design that visually followed your template but create pages and pages and pages with your spreadsheet data. No copying. No pasting!
