As a graphic designer, I love creating logos because they are simple yet powerful ways of expressing a brand or identity. It has always been a passion and artistic route for me; I used to do think about logos and design them when I was younger but now I have the skills to make logos that are professional and visually powerful. My passion for sports carries into this; a team’s logo is more than just a picture, it is a representation of that team’s brand and identity. The logo goes beyond the cover and communicates the color scheme that defines a team through the colors they wear and the ways they are seen, and this has always excited me both as a sports player and as a designer-in-training.
One of my greatest strengths as a graphic designer is to be able to make something I am proud of because I won’t stop until I think it is my best work. This dedication and attention to detail is how I approach all of my design work. Between my skillsets with software and my skillsets with hardware, I tend to focus on both equally because starting with drawings and ideas is essential before you start using software. It allows you to focus on ideas before having to fine-tune them in software.
In the future, I hope to do so much more with my graphic design skills because I really enjoy doing this. I aim to put myself out there for professional client design and I hope I can get more clients to work with so I can practice, develop, and have more portfolio pieces.
For this project, we analyzed real magazines and made design mockups using the exact sizing specifications of their cover layouts. Once we got all the sizing and design trends right, we used our own original photography and typography/color designs to re-create the magazine cover on our own. I did a photoshoot with a friend to create the look of Sports Illustrated's Fashionable 50 series that highlighted athletes and their style.
For this project, we developed a name and visual concept for a new cherry-flavored energy drink. We designed logos and made mockups to show our branding on the actual can package. I named my product "Cherry Bomb" because the drink was cherry-flavored. You can see my logos to the left and some can mockups below!
For this project, we designed our own snowboards to honor the passing of Jake Carpenter, the Vermont native and inventor of the Snowboard and owner of Burton. My designs feature some cool US-UK flip imagery, and I also did some designs with the Plungerman character!
For this project, we designed logos to represent ourselves as media artists as we start companies and doing freelance work. These can be used as watermarks on photos or logo splashes. These are some of my ideation concepts, but my favorite is in the Facebook page banner mockup above!
For this project, we designed a full set of branding materials for a client that was hiring our class to create advertising materials for an event at Arts Riot, a venue in Burlington. Our design submissions had to help visualize the eclectic, hip, and exciting event that combined music, live art, local product sales, and more!
For this project, we designed standard tabloid-sized posters to advertise events we would like to see at Vermont's biggest venue, Higher Ground. To make our designs, we were only allowed to use one unoriginal asset and had to design the rest ourselves using graphic design principles! For my poster, I made a design for Eminem and used black-and-white imagery and a minimalist design to showcase the event.
For this side project, I created a photo edit series where I showcased football players in action with their college jerseys "bleeding through" their NFL team jerseys, referencing their past.
For this project, we worked with a band in Burlington, VT who play music in the style of the 1990's. They hired us to design new logos that they could use online and as stickers to promote their band. These were the designs I submitted, playing on the visual style of the 1990's!
For this project, we practiced arranging and designing with typography by creating a custom typography art piece in InDesign using spacing, leading, tracking, and justifying. My text is based on the speech given by the 1980 USA Hockey Team when they beat the Soviet Union in a big upset.
I made this logo for my friend who does landscaping. He has since started using the logo for his business and we have printed them as promotional stickers.
For this class design challenge, we had 90 minutes to recreate a design by AJ Cassandre made in the 1930's in the Art Nouveau style for a wine bar in Paris. To recreate the design, we had to study the layout and graphic elements by eye and make our design from scratch in Adobe Illustrator. This is a side-by-side comparison of my submission compared to the original!
For this project, we created a piece of graphic art using typography as our main tool. The typeface I used is meant to contribute to the image concept. I made my design of shapes and words based on a picture of Christian McCaffrey using the typeface Dream American Diner.
For this project, we mastered the pen tool and manual digital drawing techniques to make complete vector drawings of cars, vehicles, and complicated shapes. Using a photo to guide me, I made my digital drawing of a Tesla roadster.
For this project, we learned to use the Pen Tool to make cartoon portraits of ourselves. We also learned to use our vinyl printer by printing these out as stickers!
I made this hand-drawn graphic sticker design for my friends in reference to an inside joke, but they have become a big hit and everyone likes them!
For this project, we made original designs to showcase the primary and secondary colors in our own color wheel graphic. My design showcases a color wheel as seen through filters in photography with a manipulation of multiple original photography pieces.
For this project, we were given creative briefs that outlined information about fake businesses based on real local businesses that were seeking a re-branding with logos, advertisements, color schemes, and more. These were the designs I made for The Hideout, a pub with Irish flare. I wanted my logos to look hip and inviting both as a restaurant and bar by playing on Irish colors and imagery.
For this project, we practiced branding and logo design to create a series of logos for a fictional company that was making a peanut-butter bar that was tasty as candy and healthy as a nutritional bar. After designing some logos, we created mockups to show the logos in action on a demonstration of the packaging!
This project was part of a 90-minute design challenge where we had to create a unique design of our own using only triangle shapes as building blocks. For my design, I wanted to make a design that told a story, so I used the triangles to show a graphic idea of his new team jersey through the image.
This was another class client we worked with to re-brand their property management company. We designed color schemes, logos, and web-ready animations for them to use on their website.
