Graphic design has changed me as an artist. As a graphic designer, I love making logos and having so much freedom when creating art. Starting with my love for drawing, graphic design has given me a fun and meaningful way to take my drawings to the next level.
One of my greatest strengths as a graphic designer is my mind. I think creatively and differently. I bring new and fresh ideas to the table that have meaning beyond their visual content. Between my skillsets with software and my skillsets with hardware, I tend to focus on the software. The software allows for powerful ways to create more perfect designs and drawings with tools and features, especially the pen tool and image tracing functions. In my studies, I mostly focused on using software to develop my projects because that is a bigger part of the process for me.
My greatest passions like in filmmaking and time-based media, however, studying graphic design has been a fundamental part of making films. In the future, I hope to continue with my graphic design skills and possibly pursue it as a way to get money; I would love to offer services in a company or with my own website to make designs for clients and friends. Even if I don’t pursue it professionally, I will definitely continue with it as a hobby and continue to make visual art.
For this project, we made original designs to showcase the primary and secondary colors in our own color wheel graphic.
This was a design challenge when we had a time limit to create our own design concept. This design concept was to create a visual that was built up of opposite or different objects in an artistic way. For my design, I made a tall man made out of Peter Dinklage.
For this project, we worked with a band in Burlington, VT who play music in the style of the 1990's. They hired us to design new logos that they could use online and as stickers to promote their band. These were the designs I submitted, playing on the visual style of the 1990's. The band actually picked my RugRat's themed design (#3) and paid to have it made into a sticker to sell!
For this project, we researched a musical artist and made mood boards about their style and artistic approach. Then we designed our own album art for one of their albums, showing a consistent concept across the cover, inside, traycard, and disc art. I made my album art for Vanilla Ice's debut album "Hooked." Above are my cover and traycard art designs.
For this project, we analyzed real magazines and made design mockups using the exact sizing specifications of their cover layouts. Once we got all the sizing and design trends right, we used our own original photography and typography/color designs to re-create the magazine cover on our own. This was my design for Rolling Stone Magazine with me on the cover.
For this project, we designed standard tabloid-sized posters to advertise events we would like to see at Vermont's biggest venue, Higher Ground. To make our designs, we were only allowed to use one unoriginal asset and had to design the rest ourselves using graphic design principles! For my poster, I am advertising for Steven and the Stevens!
This was one of our class client jobs- we designed posters with original visual elements for the Vermont NBCT chapter to award their teachers this year. My design makes use of iconic Vermont photography and education graphics to honor the many teachers whose names are listed.
For this project, we designed our own snowboards to honor the passing of Jake Carpenter, the Vermont native and inventor of the Snowboard and owner of Burton. My designs feature squash.
For this project, we developed a name and visual concept for a new cherry-flavored energy drink. We designed logos and made mockups to show our branding on the actual can package. I named my product "Cherry Drink."
This was another class client we worked with to re-brand their property management company. We designed color schemes, logos, and web-ready animations for them to use on their website. My animation showcases the star graphic moving and un-masking the text as it moves.
For this project, we were given creative briefs that outlined information about fake businesses based on real local businesses that were seeking a re-branding with logos, advertisements, color schemes, and more. My company was The Alley Cat- a bowling alley that wanted to rebrand as an elegant option for entertainment for adults with a bar and restaurant.
For this project, we practiced branding and logo design to create a series of logos for a fictional company that was making a peanut-butter bar that was tasty as candy and healthy as a nutritional bar. After designing some logos, we created mockups to show the logos in action on a demonstration of the packaging!
This project was part of a 90-minute design challenge where we had to create a unique design of our own using only triangle shapes as building blocks. For my design, I made a turtle with hand-drawn triangle shapes.
For this project, we designed logos to represent ourselves as media artists. These are some of my ideation concepts to use for my productions as a logo splash animation in films or as a watermark on photography.
For this project, we learned to use the Pen Tool to make cartoon portraits of ourselves. We also learned to use our vinyl printer by printing these out as stickers!
For this project, we mastered the pen tool and manual digital drawing techniques to make complete vector drawings of cars, vehicles, and complicated shapes. Using a photo to guide me, I made my digital drawing of a golf cart!
