As a graphic designer, I like to focus on the simple details. I take this practice into all types of design, but I especially enjoy logo design, graphic art, stickers, graphics for photographic display, and abstract graphic explorations. When I make a design I want to make it simple enough to where it would catch anyone’s attention and make the viewer interested in a split second.
One of my greatest strengths as a graphic designer is making detailed vector art, geometric designs, layered art, and the ability to make designs out of recognizable objects. I can also incorporate photography into graphics to give it more meaning or just a better look to complement it. Between my skillsets with software and my skillsets with hardware, I tend to focus on software. Without Adobe Illustrator, I wouldn’t be able to make the graphics that I make now. Illustrator has made graphic design much more accessible for me all together.
In the future, I hope I can keep up with graphic design as a hobby or maybe even a career. I think that graphics incorporate themselves into everyday life, and it is a great skill to have in the modern age where design is an important part of our everyday lives.
For this project, we learned to use the Pen Tool to make cartoon portraits of ourselves. We also learned to use our vinyl printer by printing these out as stickers!
For this project we made use of the pen tool even more to trace over a car of our choice. I used the bat mobile and made my design extremely detailed!
For this project we had to make logos for a fake snack bar. We first had to develop a color sche me and then design a series logo concepts utilizing those colors. We then put the designs on a wrapper as a product package mockup.
For this project we learned to make logos for a company that gave us a description of what they wanted. I got a formal night club, so I made designs that tried to match the formal nature and played upon the dance/EDM feeling.
For this project I designed an event poster for a Higher Ground Show- although this show isn't actually happening, it was good practice to explore the design and features original assets beyond the photograph!
For our studies on color theory, we had to make a creative and visually appealing image that showcased the color spectrum through primary and secondary colors.
For this project, we designed our own snowboards to honor the passing of Jake Carpenter, the Vermont native and inventor of the Snowboard and owner of Burton. My designs feature all-original graphics that capture the wild adventure of snowboarding. The first two images are mockups and the third is a demo showing the design in action.
For this project, we analyzed real magazines and made design mockups using the exact sizing specifications of their cover layouts. Once we got all the sizing and design trends right, we used our own original photography and typography/color designs to re-create the magazine cover on our own. This was my design for Time Magazine featuring Kent as the cover story!
For this project, we worked with a band in Burlington, VT who play music in the style of the 1990's. They hired us to design new logos that they could use online and as stickers to promote their band. These were the designs I submitted, playing on the visual style of the 1990's!
For this project, we practiced arranging and designing with typography by creating a custom typography art piece in InDesign using spacing, leading, tracking, and justifying. My text is a creative piece about Bee flights.
For this project we had to make an original album cover for an artist of our choosing. After researching and designing the cover, we created a cohesive set of art for the album in a CD Jewel Case with a back traycard, disc art, and inside cover. I chose I Prevail as the band for my album cover design, playing on their intense dramatic imagery.
This was another class design challenge we did to make a design in a set time period. For this we had to take something and fill it out with the opposite object. I wanted to make something with meaning so I chose to make it an angel made out of thorns.
For this project I made logos to brand myself for my own media designs as a watermark or logo splash. I based my designs off of my name and wanted to focus on lettermark and simple, clean, organized graphics throughout.
This was another class client we worked with to re-brand their property management company. We designed color schemes, logos, and web-ready animations for them to use on their website.
For this project, we developed a name and visual concept for a new cherry-flavored energy drink. We designed logos and made mockups to show our branding on the actual can package. I named my product "Lightning Energy."
