The girls soccer season is coming to an end after an excellent season that allowed them to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
The girls, who have been coached by Coach DeSousa, finished the regular season with a 5-9-4 record, which allowed them to reach the 31st position in the 3rd division.
The Girls faced Dartmouth High school and lost in the first round of their playoff season, but have been an excellent example for the future teams in BHS, and not only the soccer teams. The girls are also an example of how friendship and closeness in sports improves the results.
“The bestquality of our team is that we trust each other, and no matter what win or lose we are there for each other," captain Ali Restivo said.
But the team was also an example of how teams benefit from unity and chemistry, in fact when the Coach was asked about what helped them to make playoffs she said.
“The fact that the girls all like each other, team chemistry is important because we can teach all the things but if we don’t trust each other to play together then it doesn’t work," coach DeSousa said.
The team’s results have been impressive. The team’s young average age of players showcases their small senior class: Kirsten Dew ( goalkeeper with 5 clean sheets), Ava Restivo, and the captain’s, Katelyn Browne, Ali Restivo and Cassidy Soohoo.
The captains, as seniors with their great leadership and determination have been an example for the juniors and sophomores on the team.
“ our ability of leading people during hardships definitely helped the younger players handle the lows in our season," Captain Restivo said.
The future is bright for the girls of BHS Soccer. The team showed skills and dedication, and they played well organized soccer. Also, they had an efficient way to get goals through switches and fast passing, part of what they have demonstrated during the season.
“The younger girls are going to continue from this season and they are going to grow up from here," Captain Browne said.
The team has never given up even through the toughest minutes of the season from the beginning to the end, taking BHS to states for the first time after 7 years. Above the final result of the playoff game that finished with a 5-1 loss, the team has played an excellent season. Good job girls!
