I did not use any of the interviews I got for my photojournalism series because I didn’t feel like any of the answers fully captured the photos I got. Which is totally okay, but I’m not able to demonstrate my interviewing skills because of which. I did get to demonstrate my understanding of newsworthiness though. I am able to do this simply through the content of the photo series. For my photo series I decided to focus on summer coming up and all the fun things you can do during summer, this includes car rides, late nights, and walks around your neighborhood. In some photos I decided to focus on other signs of summer though, for example flowers blooming, nature, and even something as simple as a fan in a window. Through all of this I am able to tell a story of summer, a summer where everyone just wants to have the best time ever and enjoy nature when they can. My photojournalism series demonstrates my understanding of journalistic ethics through many ways. One way was through the idea that I couldn’t stage any photos, I simply had to catch the perfect moment to take a photo. Another way I displayed my journalistic ethics was by getting permission from the subject in my photo with the hand going out the car window, to actually use that photo, and luckily I was given permission. A third way was in a photo I had taken of a tree with people in the background. I really liked that photo but I was worried because I hadn’t seen them and therefore had not gotten their permission to use the photo. Luckily, they were unidentifiable, and I was able to use the photo. Overall through this series I was able to use everything I learned in my past two years in journalism to make a photo series that I am truly proud of.
