Tackling Lab Work
ITEM 1: Sending dry ice through the mail
You need to be certified to ship dry ice through the university.
Or, you need to have a certified friend in the on-campus dry ice shipping industry to check and approve your biz-ness. The ESPM folks who work in the Mulford mailing center might have some insider info for you.
Or, you need to leave campus in order to do it without credentials (you can still use a university account through FedEx, but you can only ship from the Emeryville FedEx Location).
If your shipment has been packaged by someone who is certified, you can schedule an on-campus pick-up through FedEx. The known campus pick-up spots are located in Koshland Hall, Barker Hall, and the in mailroom near the LSA stockroom.
The LSA stockroom sells dry ice, and may also supply you with free styrofoam coolers and shipping boxes (which may still have the appropriate shipping stickers on them, which you'll need to somehow acquire if you plan to ship off campus).
Know the weight of your dry ice to declare before shipping!
Be sure to ship the styrofoam cooler inside of a cardboard box, and do not tape the cooler shut, because the CO2 needs to vent during transit.
