LS Weekly Updates
November 15, 2024
November 15, 2024
Dear parents,
The weather is officially changing... on a day to day and minute by minute basis. Please remember that we play outdoors in all kinds of weather - students should come to school prepared, with their names clearly marked inside their clothing.
Please note, we do not make children wear coats out to play if they are telling us they are too hot. Doing so only results in children taking off their coats and losing them on the playground. (Thus adding to our ever-overflowing Lost and Found.) All children are welcome to return to the building another layer if they find they need it.
Warmly
Jen

LS Handbook Update- Birthday Treats
With many different allergy, health and religious food needs in the Lower School, the Lower School Leadership Team has discussed ways to inform and support parents who send birthday treats to school.
This information can also be referenced here on the LS Learning Program site: Birthdays, Celebrations, Snacks and Treats!
Birthdays
At ASM, we cherish the opportunity to celebrate each child’s birthday and special occasions. To ensure these celebrations are inclusive, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, we have implemented guidelines for bringing treats to school:
Allergy-Safe Environment: We strive to accommodate a range of dietary needs, including allergies to nuts, dairy, gluten, and more. However, due to the diversity of dietary requirements, we cannot guarantee that treats will be free from all allergens. Families with children who have specific allergies or dietary needs should provide their own “safe snack” for birthday celebrations. This will help us ensure every child can participate safely in celebrations.
Healthy Choices Encouraged: In line with our commitment to supporting healthy lifestyles, we ask families to consider bringing low-calorie and low-sugar treats. Options such as fruit, vegetables, yogurt, or non-food items like stickers and small toys make excellent choices and align with our wellness goals.
Pre-Packaged and Clearly Labeled Foods: To facilitate easy identification of ingredients, we recommend that treats brought to school be pre-packaged and clearly labeled. This will assist our staff in managing any potential allergy concerns.
Consider sending non-food items: pencils, erasers, and stickers can be shared and enjoyed by all students
To celebrate a birthday, we ask that the parents coordinate with the classroom teacher to determine a suitable time for treats to be shared at school.
Finally, if birthday invitations are shared at school, the expectation is that all members of the class community are invited.
