GENERAL INFORMATION ON COURSE OFFERINGS

Course offerings at Asheboro High School are comprehensive and are designed to help all students develop their maximum potential. Courses differ in instructional aims in order to provide for varying students’ vocational and academic aspirations. In keeping with a commitment to excellence, all students are encouraged to select challenging courses that allow them to pursue their individual interests.

A system of open enrollment through informed choice is used. The following criteria are used to inform and counsel students and parents/gaurdians regarding selecting the appropriate level of course difficulty.

    • Grades

    • Teacher recommendations

    • Performance on standardized tests

Honors level courses allow students to explore topics in more depth than in regular preparatory courses. The emphasis in an honors course is on discovery and inquiry learning, the utilization of research skills, and higher level thinking skills as related to the specific course content. Students who register for honors courses are making a commitment to academic rigor.
