The Library Media Assistant class gives students the opportunity for service and learning. Assistants learn to work as valuable helpers to other students and faculty, and their efforts contribute significantly to the success of the media program. As a result of this course, students will develop valuable job skills as well as information and retrieval skills that will aid them in their other classes. Students help with circulation and inventory, selection, cataloging and processing of new materials and some housekeeping duties. Students will learn to operate all equipment and perform basic technology troubleshooting.

This course will focus on providing individual assistance on regular class assignments and the completion of supportive, supplemental assignments. The teacher will provide study skills and learning strategy instruction to students in order to improve their general performance in the regular education classes. This class will provide direct instruction in reading as well as a time for students to receive instructional supports in the courses they are currently enrolled in.

Staff members create the school yearbook, The Ash Hi Life, which is a history of the school year. Students must be able to work independently and meet deadlines. They must have good writing and grammar skills. Computer skills are also necessary. Some-after school work may be required in order to finish a deadline. A written application with faculty recommendations is a required. The course may be repeated for credit.

Yearbook Editors - Spring term only
This course will include the present editors, as well as the editors for the coming year. It will involve finishing the present yearbook as well as planning for the following year. Emphasis will be on intensive instruction for the next year’s editors. This course may be repeated for credit if the student holds an editor’s position.
