Business Essentials

This course introduces students to topics related to business, finance, management, and marketing. Topics of study include:

  • business in the global economy,

  • functions of business organization and management,

  • marketing basics, and

  • significance of business financial and risk management.

English language art, trades, social studies, and mathematics are reinforced.

Business Management I

This course is designed to introduce students to core management concepts. The experience includes:

  • planning, organizing, staffing, and directing business resources,

  • enhancing the effectiveness of the decision-making process,

  • working through ethical dilemmas, and

  • problem-solving situations with customer service.

Business Management II

This course is designed to enable students to acquire, understand, and appreciate the significance of management to business organizations. Students will learn about:

  • managing financial resources and inventory,

  • ensuring employee safety, and

  • protecting customer data

  • working through ethical dilemmas,

  • problem solving, and

  • teamwork.

PREREQUISITE: Business Management I

Entrepreneurship I (Standard or Honors)

In this course, students learn about the process and skills needed to start and operate a new business. Students will learn to create a Lean Canvas Business Model (LCBM) to use as a guide for planning to start a business. They will learn the seven functions of marketing as well as business ethics and integrate each of these concepts into their own LCBM throughout the semester. In place of a traditional, multiple choice exam, students present their final LCBM to a panel of judges at the end of the semester. English language arts, math, social studies, and communication skills are reinforced.


Note: Students who choose to take the HONORS level of this course should be aware that the course is developed and implemented to be more challenging than the standard level of the course in order to foster growth for advanced learners. Students enrolling in Honors CTE courses should possess the interest, ability, and motivation to meet the challenges of an honors level course. They must be willing to take greater responsibility for their learning and aspire to an advanced level of learning through high quality work.

Entrepreneurship II Honors

In this course, students develop an understanding of important decisions to be made after obtaining financing to open a small business. Students acquire in-depth understanding of business regulations, risks, management, and marketing and create a small-business management handbook. Marketing (Standard or Honors)

In this course, students develop an understanding of the processes involved from the creation to the consumption of products/services. Students develop an understanding and skills in the areas of:

  • distribution,

  • marketing-information management,

  • market planning,

  • marketing ethics,

  • pricing,

  • product/service management,

  • promotion, and

  • selling.

Students develop an understanding of marketing functions applications and how they impact business operations. English/language arts, communication, mathematics and social studies are reinforced. DECA (an association for Marketing Education students) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply classroom learning and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Marketing Applications (Standard or Honors)

In this course, students will apply an understanding of the seven functions of marketing and their impact on business decisions including:

  • customer relations,

  • consumer personalities and behaviors,

  • economics,

  • financial analysis,

  • channel-member relationships,

  • marketing-information management,

  • marketing planning,

  • products and services management, and

  • sales forecasting and techniques.

Students also have opportunities to use technology to acquire and use marketing information. English, language arts, math, and social studies are reinforced.

Sport & Event Marketing I

In this course, students are introduced to the industry of sports, entertainment, and event marketing. Topics included are:

  • branding, licensing, and naming rights;

  • business foundations;

  • concessions and on-site merchandising;

  • economic foundations;

  • human relations; and

  • safety and security.

Mathematics and social studies are reinforced. DECA (an association for Marketing Education students) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Sport & Event Marketing II Honors

In this course, students continue to develop an understanding of sports, entertainment, and event marketing. Emphasis is on:

  • client relations,

  • legal issues, and

  • sponsorships.

Mathematics and social studies are reinforced. DECA (an association for Marketing Education students) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.
