NINEZFEST

OCTOBER 2019, AUDITORIO SAN PEDRO

ALEJANDRACANTÚ.pdf

"NiñezFest: Por tu planeta" took place at the Auditorio San Pedro. This event promotes the interaction and participation of children and young adults to promote art, science and sports in the style of a street fair.

Damaris Gurreola, who works at Centro Cultural Fatima, contacted me to invite the MSHS ASFM students to participate in this event. The HS Drawing (Ale Cantu) and HS Painting (Ale Castaneda) students participated in an exhibit called "Water. Paint. Ink". Their pieces were displayed inside the Lobby of the Auditorio San Pedro.

COMEDOR SANTA MARIA

MARCH 2018

A group of 14 ASFM students and 15 Starbucks Managers from the Monterrey area worked together at Comedor Santa Maria in Villa de Gracia, NL.

The objective of the day was to work with students and paint some leaves that will be part of a tree sculpture and afterwards to plant trees next to the comedor to help create a bit of shade and deflect the heat.

It was a very fulfilling experience for the children and for my students as well.

ASFM MARKETPLACE

February 2018

In February of 2018, the ASFM Marketplace will take place for the second time.

Gaby Maiz asked me if I would like to participate with an art display. I proposed a photography competition for MSHS students to be displayed during the Marketplace.

In total, there were 37 submissions. There were three main prizes and five Honorable Mentions.

WEAR YOUR ART UPDATE

DECEMBER 2017

The work that the students created was turned into fabric and then made into wearable fashion pieces like scarves, dresses, shoes, etc. All of the proceeds then go to “Sembrarte”. “Sembrarte” is an organization that helps single moms who have children with disabilities. To culminate the work there was a fashion display at Palacio de Hierro where the pieces were auctioned.

Today we had a visit from Andrea and her mom, who have benefitted from the generosity of Sembrarte. Andrea is a girl with severe scoliosis and down syndrome. Andrea's mom came to meet with the students whose pieces were part of the auction. She explained how because of their pieces Andrea was able to receive a special chair for her scoliosis that her mom has not been able to afford for many years. She also talked about other girls who also received a special mattress for her scoliosis and a mom who is a seamstress but couldn't sow because she didn’t have sewing machines, so she received two sewing machines. It was emotional and real.

NOVEMBER 2017

Sembrarte approached me to create a partnership between their association and ASFM in 2016. Since then we have had two successful events called "Wear your Art" where students create a piece of art that if selected is transformed into a piece of clothing like a dress, shoes, pants, etc.

This clothing item is then displayed on a runway show and the items are auctioned and the proceeds go to single working mothers who have children with disabilities.
