CLASSROOM OBSERVATION BY GABY CAMPOY

SEPTEMBER 2018

FEEDBACK FROM OBSERVATION

Hi Ale,

Thank you for having me in your class today.

In focusing on "Active Learning Environment", I observed:

1. Students actively engaged painting their sculpture and/or searching on the internet for images of Cubism paintings to get examples on what colors to choose etc.

2. Some students engaging in a conversation with the teacher about the effect they were observing when applying the first coat of paint, the reason why etc.

I wondered:

How do you know if your students know what the learning objetive is for this activity?

Thanks again,

Gaby

PERSONAL REFLECTION

After going through the feedback and thinking about it I kept thinking how can I make sure I can answer Gaby's question:

"How do you know if your students know what the learning objetive is for this activity?"

I went back to Gaby to discuss this further and what she observed was that the students knew what to do and how to do it but they didn't know "why" they were doing it. Now her question was clear to me and I started thinking of how I could best answer it.

Next I looked at the NCAS Standards and I believe that the first Enduring Understanding answers the question, it says: "Creativity and innovative thinking are essential life skills that can be developed."

I believe that that is the main purpose to why we teach art at ASFM, so that our students learn to think differently and be flexible in any situation they can encounter.

As I work on my SBG rubrics for next year I am making sure that this statement is clear and part of it so tat students see the "big" picture and not just the task at hand.

This is the second time Dr. Rhoades has done an observation in my class.

Afterwards we had a discussion of how the class went regarding student learning. Dr. Rhoades mentioned how see growth in my practice and how I was implementing the suggestion she had done the previous year.

CLASSROOM OBSERVATION BY DEREK RHOADES

OCTOBER 2009

This is my first year back at ASFM after four years away. Dr Rhoades will be doing my formal evaluation throughout the year. This will include several classroom observations, pre and post discussion regarding the observations.

After the process was completed, Dr. Rhoades gave me feedback on my closure techniques and what I can do to improve on them. I will begin implementing them next year with my new classes.
