Mentor

MENTORING: ANJALI NIRMALAN

SCHOOL YEAR 2019-2020

This school year Samantha Burbidge, James King and I are mentoring Anjali. She will be teaching HS English and is coming from Boston. I look forward to working with all of them as a team to make her feel welcome and successful at ASFM and Monterrey.

MENTORING: TERESSA PACE

SCHOOL YEAR 2018-19

This school year I am mentoring Teressa Pace. She is a HS Learning Specialist from NY.

I began having communication with her since the end of last school year, going over basic questions and introductions about Monterrey and ASFM.

One of the requests she had was to have a mentor who would check in with her every week to see how she is doing. We have been meeting regularly in my classroom and we debrief about how things are going for her. Overall, I believe she is adjusting well and has started to have connections with students and teachers.

MENTORING: FREDA CHRISTIE FREY

SCHOOL YEAR 2017-18

During the 2017-18 school year I was part of the mentoring program at ASFM. My mentee was Freda Christie who is teaching HS English and AP Literature.

During the school year I was able to help Freda with Powerschool, getting around the city, school protocols and just making sure she had someone to touch base with. I believe we had a good relationship that has grown into a friendship.

MENTORING: MARIANA GARZA

SCHOOL YEAR 2015-2016

I have known Mariana since we were in Elementary and when she accepted to MS Art Teacher position I was very happy for her. Mariana brings many years of experience as she has worked at the Colegio Ingles and Colegio Euroamericano as the MS Art teacher.

Mariana's enthusiasm for the Arts is contagious, because of this I know that her students will grow as artists and enjoy her classes.

MENTORING: ALEJANDRA CASTANEDA

SCHOOL YEAR 2014-2015

This is Ale's first year back and although she taught at ASFM before many things have changed. She is taking on the Yearbook teacher position and putting together her team of students to tackle this challenge. Ale will also be teaching Art 9 and HS Painting.

I look forward to working with her and helping her ease her transition at ASFM.

MENTORING: PACO SEGOVIA

SCHOOL YEAR 2013-2014

When Paco was hired at ASFM, he had a part-time contract. This year, as a full hire teacher, he will be teaching both Drama and MS Art classes.

In order to get Paco ready for his classes, he and I have been partner planning since the beginning of the school year. I have shared with Paco all of my presentations and assessments so that we all students receive common information and evaluations.

I wish Paco the best in this new position!

MENTORING: ALEJANDRA CHAVEZ AND BOBBY BELDEN

SCHOOL YEAR 2010-2011

Last school year I completed a positive observational review through Admin. Because of this, I had the choice of staying in the same band or to become a Mentor for teachers who were going to go through the review cycle. I decided to become a mentor and Alejandra Chavez and Bobby Belden were my mentees.

Through the year, the three of us met on various occasions and we had discussions about their classes, pedagogy and approaches to teaching our students. By the end of the year we had gone over various strategies and approaches to our daily teachings. I believe we all learned and grew form working with each other and I look forward to having more opportunities like this one.
