MARCH 2020

Ai Weiwei is an international Chinese artist that exhibited at Museo MARCO. His work ranges from a 400 year old Chinese tea temple to the 43 disappeared students of Ayotzinapa in Mexico. The work he produces speak of political and social disparities. It is very compelling.

FERIA INTERNACIONAL DE ANTIGUEDADES Y ARTE

OCTOBER 2019

Dr. Adams sent me an email regarding the FIAART and asked if I would be interested in taking students to the event. As I read more about the exhibit and the type of art that we would be able to see, from Indigenous to Contemporary, I understood the value of the event.

Ale Castaneda and I took 44 students to the fair. We were greeted by Paul Brunet at the lobby and he gave the students a brief description of what they would see ranging from Pre-Hispanic to Contemporary art. The exhibit includes parts of an Egyptian sarcophagus, Graffiti art, Baroque furniture and the partial skull of a Triceratops found in Nuevo Leon. The students got to visit three floors of an impressive array of art where several of the curators and gallery owners were available for them to talk to and ask questions about the displayed pieces.

MARCO MUSEUM VISIT: RAFAEL LOZANO-HELMER

OCTOBER 2019

For the second consecutive year, Ale Castañeda and I organized a field trip to Museo MARCO. This year we took over 100 students and had to divide the event in two days. The students were engaged in the art pieces as they were very interactive. Afterwards, they had time to do a workshop related to the exhibit they just saw and create a "face book" using collage and brown paper bags.
