Good afternoon Kindergarten Families,

Save the Date for the Kindergarten Promotion Ceremony!


The Kindergarten Promotion Ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 28th in the CAA at 7:30 a.m. Kindergarten children need to be dropped off at Gate 1 by 6:45 a.m. Parents will enter/exit Gate 8 in the CAA.


After the ceremony, the Kindergarteners can go home with their parents as this will be their last day of school. Kindergarteners do not need to attend classes on May 29th.


Each family can have up to 6 family members attend the ceremony.


Siblings can participate in the continuation ceremony. Please email the teacher to inform them beforehand; however, older siblings are expected to stay in school for the rest of the day.


Important Information:

-Today was KB last day for swimming on Monday April 29th- KC starts swimming, please have students wear their swimming suits under their uniform and send towel, goggles, swim caps, comb, and underwear in a swim bag. If your child is not swimming you need to send a medical excuse to jcastro@ans.edu.ni, ansprimary@ans.eud.ni and your homeroom teacher.

English Literacy

Learning Goal

ELA: Students will engage in reading playdates with diagraphs and blends.


Phonics: Students will be playing with phonics poems.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

ELA: Students will become phonics finders: they will gain automaticity and speed so that words with diagraphs and consonant blends don't slow down their reading. They will specifically focus on the three most common diagraphs: th, sh and ch.


Phonics: Students will learn that writers can use their knowledge about onset, rime, blends, and diagraphs to write poems that sound right and make sense. They will also be learning 4 new High-Frequency words: Go, So, No and By 

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

ELA: Students can recite the nursery rhymes and poems with their families looking at the blends and diagraphs.

Phonics: Students can practice writing words at home using snap words and all that they know about blends and diagraphs to make new words. 

Spanish Literacy

Learning Goal

Los escritores agregar mas razones para convencer. 

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Los escritores revisarán sus escritos y agregarán mas razones para ser mas convincentes, trabajarán con compañeros para hacerse preguntas y agregar más. 

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

En casa pueden escribir cartas para convencer a los miebros de su familia sobre algun problema que ven. 

Mathematics

Learning Goal

Students will identify penny and dime by name and worth.

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Mathematicians will determine the total value of a collection of coins (one dime and some pennies). Students will also work on the tens and ones checkpoint which will be their first writen assessment in kindergarten. 

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Students could use recycle materials to make their own coins (dimes and pennies) and play with their families to practice using coin's names and worth. 

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

Acting and being fair in life - Making fair decisions and having empathy for others

What tigers are doing at school...

Students are exposed to fair and unfair situations, they are using their critical thinking skills to decide how they should act in a fair and just way.

What tigers could be doing at home...

Students can talk with their parents to decide how they can make their home more fair for everyone, they can create a strategic plan so that everyone feels included.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Learners and Friends understand how to take responsibility for their actions.

Learners and Friends learn how to make sincere and reparative amends.

Learners and Friends understand how to have a forgiving attitude toward others.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Students—and adults—often make mistakes. Mistakes can result in hurt feelings, broken belongings, or relationships that need to be repaired. Learning how to stay calm, take steps to repair these situations, and maintain good feelings toward one another are important relationship skills. In this lesson, students will learn about taking responsibility for their actions and the importance of making amends and practicing forgiveness. In the activity, students will discuss how characters in scenarios can take steps to fix mistakes and make amends.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Affirm kids when they do take responsibilty and make amends and encourage this behavior further.

Encourage them to think about the consequences of their actions—if their actions will maintain a friendship or could hurt it.
