Hi all! As you probably know, I’m Grace, and I’m going to be the Editor-in-Chief of The Spectrum this year! I have been on The Spectrum’s staff since I was a freshman, acting as more of a consultant and an assistant editor, but I’m ready to take on a bigger leadership position now. I’m excited to inherit the long-standing and illustrious reputation of the paper and to work with our talented staff writers.
You can expect to see opinion pieces written by me, but what I’m most excited about is being able to edit the articles you’ll read and make sure they’re high quality. I would say I’m pretty good with grammar, though I’m sure it sounds dorky. Mr. Arra can attest to that! Both the love for grammar and the dorkiness, unfortunately.
Along with being the new Editor-in-Chief, I’m a Merple, a member of our Academic Challenge and Math Teams, and a prominent member of the ALHS Drama Club! So while I may normally be quite busy, our current situation has brought me a lot more free time. Which brings me to this:
In the age of COVID-19, we’re putting a lot more emphasis on the digital aspect of our publication. Safety is important to us, as is accessibility. We’ll cover any pandemic-related topics, but won’t let it take over - I’m sure you’re all tired of reading so much about the current state of affairs. If we happen to transition into online
learning, we will do our best to bring The Spectrum to you there as well.
I’m so lucky to be collaborating with some of the best writers I know, along with some of the most creative minds I’ve encountered. We want to bring you news AND fun things like student surveys, comics, and more. With everything changing this year, we’re determined that The Spectrum will remain a constant of ALHS, as it has been for years and years… and years… you get the idea. Here’s to a good (and good-news-filled) year!
