I am Morgan Hughes and I am this year’s Spectrum Sports editor. I am a senior and have been involved with the Spectrum for two years now. I play tennis and am on the swim team and sports have always been an important part of my life, so I am excited to have the opportunity this year to be more involved in reporting on ALHS sports.
The pandemic has been affecting everything around us, and sports are not an exception. When it comes to professional and college level sports, seasons are getting canceled and extreme measures are being taken to ensure player and staff safety.
For high school sports, precautions like mandatory masks and temperature checks are just the beginning for many sports teams and athletes. Many teams are not allowed spectators, or allowed very few spectators. However, despite these challenges, ALHS is very lucky to be one of the select schools that are still allowing fall sports right now.
It is important as sports editor to take advantage of this opportunity and keep the school informed about the sports that they love. It is my goal this year to keep the school involved with sports even though students can’t directly go to games.
In Morgan’s Mindset, my editor column in the sports section, I will discuss my take on current events in sports. These current events may be involving professional sports, possibly even Olympic level sports. They could also be about college level sports or local sports. I am excited to have an outlet for a more opinion based column for things that I feel interested in and passionate about.
I hope you are all looking forward to this school year and sports season. Although this year will be different and challenging, I am confident that we can make it a great one.
