As we transition into the second semester of this unconventional year, we are faced with many new challenges and changes. With that, we welcome a new addition to our staff at Avon Lake High School, Mr. Myatt!
Bringing an energetic presence to the learning environment, Mr. Myatt is more than ready to take on the challenges of teaching both remote and in-person learners during the second semester. While Mr. Myatt is relatively new to the world of teaching, he is no stranger to the field of education. He attended Bowling Green State University graduating with a license in Language Arts and History, along with a degree in Middle Childhood Education.
Mr. Myatt began his career by student teaching 6th graders in rural Fostoria, Ohio. Growing up in Bay Village, he decided to return to familiar territory and began subbing for various schools in the surrounding area.
Last year Mr. Myatt decided to apply for a position to sub at ALHS, but his plans were halted when the pandemic hit. Thankfully this year he was hired by the district to be a sub for the various school buildings.
Mr. Myatt is more than delighted to have become a permanent sub for ALHS, adding that “Avon Lake has the friendliest staff I’ve ever seen and the most well-behaved students.”
Rest assured, Mr. Myatt always has the students’ best interest in mind while doing everything he can to make learning as enjoyable as possible. “I will go the utmost lengths to keep [the students] interested,” he adds.
COVID has made the learning experience much more challenging, but Mr. Myatt has found innovative ways to help the students learn by incorporating both interactive and scenario-based activities. Furthermore, he has had prior experience with paperless learning, which has made his transition much easier.
When asked about what he would like his students to take away from his course, Mr. Myatt replied, “One of my core philosophies is I want the kids to be able to identify their own ideology.”
All and all, it has been a challenging yet rewarding year for Mr. Myatt. He thoroughly enjoys getting the opportunity to work with his students each and every day.
