Expanding Our Knowledge
October 14, 2024
What are we doing this 2nd Nine Weeks?!
Well, if you remember the first 9 weeks, we learned how to read different parts of a map such as the legend, scale, and symbols. We discovered physical geography and human geography. We discovered how humans over time have adapted and modified their environment based on their geography. We talked about a variety of landforms such as mountains, rivers, and valleys. We learned about migration, immigration, and cultural diffusion. We also completed IB projects on the United States and Canada.
Quiz: We now know the difference between a city, state, country, and continent. Right?! We can name the 7 continents? Right?! We all know the major oceans of the world?! Yasss!
During this 2nd 9 weeks, we will expand our knowledge:
We all know where to locate Mexico on a map. Easy!
We will now locate Central America and South America and its major countries, landforms, bodies of water, and climate.
We will identify historical and present-day forms of government, economic systems, and cultural contributions of Central American societies
We will identify examples of Spanish influence and the influence of other cultures on Texas such as place names, vocabulary, religion, architecture, food, and the arts
We will have discussions about current events happening in Texas
We will have scavenger hunts around your Texas knowledge and other topics
We will talk more about immigration: How most of the non-Native or African population before independence movements was from Spain or Portugal
We will learn how French occupation of countries like Haiti and Martinique attracted more immigration from France; why most of the countries of Central America today have a mixed population of Hispanic, African, and Western European
Oh, we will listen to songs and podcasts to better understand Mexico and Central America
Lastly, we will watch movie clips and analyze historic themes to further our knowledge of Texas history and Hispanic cultures.
