The U.S. Constitution
George Washington -
Leader of the Constitutional Convention of 1787
During Unit 4, Constitutional Convention, we will examine the political reasons for creating the Constitution; the leaders couldn't figure out how to amend the Articles of Confederation and its numerous weaknesses.
We will examine why delegates met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to create a new form of Government.
By the end of this unit, we will be able to compare and contrast the compromises over representation that helped form our government, and the system for amending the Constitution, such as the Great Compromise and the ⅗ Compromise.
Lastly, we will be able to identify key individuals and their roles; George Washington as leader of the convention, James Madison termed the "Father of The Constitution" for his meticulous notes, Alexander Hamilton's role as stressing the need for a strong Federal Government, Patrick Henry and his role as an Anti-Federalist and shouting out ¨I smell a rat'' in response to the federal government powers.
