What are we doing this 3rd 9 Weeks?!
Now that we know how European settlers lived and ate in the 1600s, where we learned of the 13 colonies, geography, self-government, and the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Southern Colonies.
We know key people in the American Revolution like General George Washington. And we know about the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; the first 10 amendments of the Constitution.
In this 3rd 9 weeks, we will learn of the Industrial Revolution and inventions such as the cotton gin, steam engine, interchangeable parts and canals. We will learn of different immigrant populations such as the Chinese, German and Irish who came to the United States for economic, political and social reasons. We will discover how the United States began expanding westward toward the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic.
We will discover the meaning of reform movements; what it means to take a stand for a cause important to change society
We will have discussions about current events in the U.S. and abroad
We will learn of key events leading to the Civil War, one of the bloodiest wars in United States history
We will learn the importance of rebuilding a country after a war
We will learn of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments and how they changed society
We will have scavenger hunts around how America works and other topics.
We will watch short videos and answer random history questions
Lastly, we will listen to songs and watch movie clips to analyze historic themes and to further our history knowledge.
