Indian Removal Act, Worcester v. Georgia
Trail of Tears
Age of Jackson, we will compare and contrast the Election of 1824 to the Election of 1828 and how changes in suffrage laws led to the rise of the "Common Man" and "Jacksonian Democracy".
We will examine how Jackson became with his Spoils System of firing and choosing cabinet members based on loyalty. His hatred for the National Bank and vetoing bank bills ushering its demise and the funding of state banks which pushed the country into an economic depression. Jackson and his feud with Nicholas Biddle of the National Bank and the roles of Daniel Webster and Henry Clay and the Bank War will be discussed.
We will analyze the court case Worcester vs Georgia and the Cherokees struggle to keep their land and synthesize the Indian Removal Act resulting in the Trail of Tears and deaths for thousands of Native Americans. We will be able to locate where Native Americans were sent for relocation which was titled “Indian Territory” which is now present day Oklahoma.
We will identify the economic, social and political factors that led to Sectionalism by debating how the Nullification Crisis was an early form of Sectionalism by South Carolina and identify key individuals and their roles such as Jackson and his feud with his Vice President John C. Calhoun resulting in The Nullification Crisis regarding Protective Tariffs.
