We will identify the issues that led to Southern secession and the Civil War.
We will identify some of the differences between the Northern and Southern economies, such as factories and manufacturing of textiles in the North and farming and cotton plantations in the South.
We will understand the different perspectives of Texas citizens, including African Americans, German immigrants and Union supporters, and understand how roles for women changed during the war.
We will explain the effects the Union naval blockade had on Texas and learn how Texans overcame shortages caused by the war.
We will also discover the Confederate surrender at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia in1865.
