Alexander Hamilton's life and other key figures in American history were depicted in the musical, Hamilton
During Unit 5, the Federalist Period, you will examine how the new nation was in financial ruin with a lingering war debt from the American Revolutionary War.
Washington, America's first president, chose Alexander Hamilton as his Secretary of the Treasury to get the country out of debt, and his solutions will be studied. We will analyze the development of the political parties through Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson and Hamilton's argument over the creation of a National Bank.
We will study the debate on how different groups became strict and loose constructionists in analyzing the new Constitution.
The Whiskey Rebellion will be compared and contrasted to Shays Rebellion being that in the case of the Whiskey Rebellion which was put down by asserting the power of the federal Government.
We will study contributions of individuals such as George Washington, including his Farewell Address which stressed neutrality by not getting involved in overseas wars.
Attention will be given to Hamilton's early economic systems, including Free Enterprise, Capitalism, Laissez Faire and his
3 Point Plan to get the country out of debt.
Thomas Jefferson and his creation of the Democrat Republican party and its vision for an agrarian America, John Adams as 2nd President and his involvement in the XYZ Affair which involved French agents asking for a bribe for France protecting American ships and how Adams response laid the foundation for a strong military will also be examined.
The Alien Act which changed terms for immigrants to become U.S. citizens and The Sedition Act which attacked newspapers with fines and imprisonment for printing scandalous writings attacking the government will be a topic for discussion.
Lastly, we will detail why John Adams fell out of favor with The Federalist party and was not reelected President.
