The Alamo, in San Antonio
We will identify on a map the areas of Texas that were explored and settled by Spanish conquistadors and analyze historical maps of Texas.
We should be able to draw a map showing exploration routes in Texas. We will use timelines to discuss important events in the exploration of Texas.
Through the study of this unit we will be able to describe the relationship between Native Americans and European settlers in Texas.
We will also be able to explain the motivations of governments and explorers for expanding European land claims, understand the leadership skills necessary for a successful expedition and identify the cultural changes that occurred with the arrival of European settlers.
