What are we doing this 2nd Nine Weeks?!
Well, if you remember the first 9 weeks, we learned about Texas geography, the four regions of Texas, as well as American Indian tribes such as the Karankawas, Caddo, Coahuiltecans, Apache, and Comanches. We also discovered Spanish and French explorers like Cabeza de Vaca, Pineda, Coronado, and La Salle. We ended the units with Spanish missions and Empresarios in Texas like Moses Austin and Stephen F. Austin.
Well, the 2nd 9 weeks we will understand how:
People, events, and issues led to the Texas Revolution and how it shaped the history of Texas
We will learn about the Siege of the Alamo in San Antonio
We will have debates about different topics chosen by YOU and ME
We will discover Sam Houston, the former Governor of Texas, for whom Houston is named after
We will read about the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; important documents that give us freedom of speech, press, religion, the right to assemble, and to petition
We will explore how the government works
We will actively take turns participating in discussions about Texas, shared interests, current and upcoming events, or desires and plans for the future
We will have Mini-Mock Trials to learn about trial procedures and to understand the Bill of Rights and the federal court system
We will have scavenger hunts around your Texas knowledge and other interesting topics
We will identify why different immigrant groups came to Texas and where they settled
We will listen to songs and podcasts to better understand Texas history
