Content Standards

1. Students will demonstrate understanding of history

   a. Students will demonstrate an understanding of developments in world history from the 1500's through the present

        1. Identify the major elements in European history that led to the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation

        2. Describe the key elements and figures that played major roles in European Expansion

        3. Trace the series of events that caused the era of political and social revolutions around the world

        4. Identify key factors of nationalism and imperialism that led up to the first World War

        5. List major events, leaders, and battles in World War I

        6. Describe the era between the world wars and events that led up to World War II

        7.  List major events, leaders, and battles in World War II

        8. Summarize the events and outcomes of the Cold War and spread of communism resulting in Korean and Vietnam conflicts

        9. Discuss reasons for the end of the Cold War

        10. Describe history in the 21st Century including human rights, genocide, and terrorism

2. Students will demonstrate understanding of government/political science

    a. Students will demonstrate origins of types of governments from the 1500's to present time

        1. Describe the reasons for the fall of feudalism and the rise of monarchies

        2. Identify the changes in governments around the world as a result of revolutions (decline in monarchies/rise of democracy)

        3. Discuss the types of governments that were prevalent in the world during World War II

        4. Summarize the postwar rise of communism

        5. List the reasons for the fall of communism

3. Students will demonstrate understanding of geography

    a. Students will demonstrate an understanding of global regions

        1. Make and use maps, globes, graphs, and charts to locate major countries and governments of the world

        2. Understand the Five Themes of Geography

        3. Describe the physical characteristics of landforms, climate, and natural resources os world regions during the second millennium

        4. Describe the role of technology in the discovery of and expansion into the continents

4.  Students will demonstrate understanding of economics

    a. Students will demonstrate an understanding of how changes in technology, government, and trade impact economics

        1. Describe how the Industrial Revolution had an impact on trade and the rise of imperialism around the world

        2. Summarize how changes in governments directly impacted trade and economics of countries around the world

        3. Discuss the effects the World Wars and major 20th Century conflicts had on world economies
