Teaching Recently Arrived English Learners/ Newcomers Resources

Smile!

Building a positive relationship on the first day is the most important thing you can do for your Newcomers.

You do not need to speak the same language for students to know that you care about them and that they are welcome in your class. ( It is special to them if you know just a few words in their language)

Help your Newcomers feel included in your classroom by displaying books and posters about their culture. This will help them understand that they are welcome!
