A Pre-K Protocol for ELLs

The Parent Brochure (Spanish Version):

For Emerging Multilingual Learners (EMLs), knowing more than one language is a benefit in many ways.

A large number of families in New York speak more than one language at home.

Sometimes young students start Prekindergarten knowing only their home languages.

We value bilingualism and encourage our young students to continue learning more than one language. It is important to

continue speaking the home language!

The EML Language Profile (Spanish Version):

The Language Profile retrieves information about all students in Prekindergarten, and also finds out about the  language(s) spoken by our students.

This is part of a process that will help teachers to give instruction to meet  the needs of EMLs.  Students identified by the EML Language Profile are entitled to a combination of supports and instruction while learning English.
