Philadelphia National College Fair: Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 11am to 3pm at the Philadelphia Convention Center. This is a free and open to the public event but student will need to register for the event. By registering for the event, you will receive a personalized barcode identification sheet that colleges will be able to scan, allowing for more time for one-on-one conversations. MCCC will host the Health Careers Boot Camp at both their Blue Bell and Pottstown Campuses. This program is designed to engage high school students in exploring health careers. Each student will have the opportunity to learn about four of their programs, and enjoy lunch during our celebration of health careers.

Interested in business or health care careers? Would you like a culturally diverse summer educational experience? Applications are now available for Lehigh University - Pennsylvania for Global Entrepreneurship & The University of Pittsburgh – Health Careers Scholar Academy. Current Sophomores and Juniors may apply; the application deadline is February 15, 2016.

COLLEGE VISITS TO JENKINTOWN HIGH SCHOOL:
Every year in the fall, College Admissions Representatives from near and far, visit with Jenkintown students.
To view the list of schools that will be visiting Jenkintown: Log into your FAMILY CONNECTION ACCOUNT and click on the COLLEGES tab.
Students must sign up two days in advance of the session and they must also secure a pass from the teacher whose class they will be missing. Students must register for the college visit in their Family Connection Account.

Make sure that you are watching your college application deadlines, log into Family Connection to review your college list, to request transcripts and to review journal entry notes.

FOR JUNIORS:
The Mock ACT will be held on Monday, November 23 from 12noon to 4pm in the Cafeteria. Link to register is on the Guidance Website.
PSAT Results will be mailed home as soon as we get them. The PSAT is new this year which may result in a longer scoring window. Historically, scores were mailed home at the end of December, however, this year, we may not get the results until January. **Please note: The school only receives one student copy, therefor, the PSAT results are only mailed to the custodial parent**
Guidance is starting to set up Junior IGP Meetings with the first appointment starting on November 30. Please contact Chrissy Kafkalas at kafkalac@jenkintown.org to set up your appointment. Appointments start as early as 7:30am and the last appointment is at 3:00pm (Please note that 7:30am meetings are limited). The meetings run 45 minutes and the meeting is held with the parent(s) and student. We will review the HS Transcript, plan for senior courses, talk about college admissions testing, and so much more.
Junior Workshops will begin on October 26th and will run through May 2016. The juniors are divided into small groups and will meet with a guidance counselor intern during the day for one period. The workshop series are as follows: Introduction to the Junior Workshops and Naviance/Family Connection & review of the SAT and ACT, Introduction to College Board and the SAT, Career Interest Inventory and Family Connection College Search, Resume Workshop, Junior/Senior Checklist, NCAA and the Common Application & Healthy on-line social media presence.
FOR SOPHOMORES:

Tuesday, January 12, 2016: Eastern Center for Arts and technology will be visiting Jenkintown to give an information Session to all 10th and 11th grade students. Do What You Are Self Discovery Personality Type Assessment: This report will provide the student with information about their personal Characteristics. They will learn about careers that are matched to them and their personal strengths and blind-spots. The personality type is not an exact science, however, understanding your type can help guide you in making better decisions about your future.

Attn Parents of Graduates: Jenkintown High School is interested in collecting data on Jenkintown Graduates who participated in the Jenkintown/MCCC Dual Enrollment and whether the Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) credits were abled to be transferred to the college/university your student is currently attending. If they took French IV, French V, Honors French V, Spanish IV, Spanish V, and/or Honors Spanish V and were enrolled in the Dual Enrollment program with MCCC, then we would LOVE to hear from you!
