CLASS OF 2016 Parents and students:
1) This is a reminder that students should be checking their emails for important notices from colleges/universities. Many schools email students with information about their online portals. Please notify Ms. Kafkalas is the college is requesting for Marking Period Grades or Mid-Year Grades (forward the email or make a copy to give to Ms. Kafkalas)
2) If your child is applying to college, please make sure to check the colleges Financial Aid Deadlines.

In order to "sign" the FAFSA, one parent AND the child needs to have an FSA ID. The FSA ID is your electronic signature. You can sign up for the FSA ID now, and have it ready for when you submit the FAFSA: https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm

2) Eastern Center for Arts and Technology will be visiting with the 11th Grade class on January 13, 2017. Families are invited to have a private 10-minute session with Santa without the noises and crowds that typically occur when getting your picture taken with Santa. Bring your camera to capture your favorite picture! This event is free of cost; however, we are asking for donations to serve the children and families of Bucks County Children & Youth this holiday season. If interested, please email info@autismdiagnostics.com to schedule your appointment with Santa. You must have a prescheduled appointment confirmation to visit with Santa.

1) Interested in business or health care careers? Would you like a culturally diverse summer educational experience? Are you a current 10th or 11th Grader?
The Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship (PSGE) at Lehigh University held July 2 - July 29, 2017 and the University of Pittsburgh Health Scholars Academy (UPHCSA) held on June 25 - July 22, 2017, former Governor's School programs, are accepting applications for the 2017 summer programs. Current high school sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply.
The application deadline is February 15, 2017.

2) 10th and 11th Graders: PFEW Applications are NOW Available: Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week 2017 is a unique and challenging program designed for high school sophomores and juniors. PFEW furnishes a perfect opportunity to learn about career opportunities that students may not have considered. What will you do at PFEW? By acting as an executive management team and running your own business, you and your peers will learn about our free enterprise system. With the task of turning an “imaginary company” into a financial success, you will determine selling prices, marketing costs, budgets for production, research and development, financing and stock options. You will develop your own marketing strategies and design an advertising campaign. In essence you will make all the decisions that are demanded of real life company executives. Throughout your PFEW adventure, you will meet and work with some of Pennsylvania’s top executives. Representing career fields including law, engineering, manufacturing, advertising, environmental protection, computer technology, and politics. These inspiring professionals will share their motivational success stories with you. INTERESTED? Don’t delay, this could be a wonderful opportunity to do something exciting this summer.
3) Pennsylvania State Police Youth Week is a program designed to increase understanding among the state's youth and its law enforcement and to give first hand experience in the many areas of law enforcement including leadership, discipline, and self-esteem. You will learn how to work as a team and be taught self-esteem, as you will be the future Leaders of our state and nation. There will be classes in Pennsylvania Vehicle and Crime Codes, forensic sciences, radar, riot control, tactical drug operation through the use of specially trained dogs, weapon firing, and other police related skills. Students should be physically fit, in good health, and have a good academic record. Any female or male student between the ages of 15-17 can participate in the six-day camp on June 11-17, 2017 at York College of Pennsylvania in York, Pennsylvania. FEE: 150.00 which includes meals and lodging. The fee is paid by the sponsoring post/unit or other civic group and is non-refundable. 4) 11th Grade Males: Pennsylvania American Legion Keystone Boys State is a unique week long FREE summertime educational program that does not emphasize classroom lectures and textbook learning. It is an activity born out of a need for youth training in practical citizenship, leadership and to instill a working knowledge of the structure and operation of government. The program runs June 18 - June 24, 2017 at Shippensburg University.
Eligibility Criteria: 1. Only males who have successfully completed their junior year of high school and have at least one semester of high school remaining are to be considered. 2. Any boy who has previously attended a boys State is not eligible to attend a second session. 3. Only boys with outstanding qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service to their schools are to be considered. Boys State was founded in 1935 to teach young men about the rights, privileges and responsibilities of American citizens. The program focuses on hands-on participation in simulated city, county, and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offers, activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, intramural sports, law-enforcement presentations, etc. If you have a male junior who is interested in the law enforcement, law, military and/or military academies this is a nationally recognized program!!!!
