This chapter records Arjuna's vision of Krishna "as he really is," meaning in all of his divine glory. Since most of the verses here describe this vision, much of what you read for today will involve your imagination. As you read, try to envision what you see, and in particular, choose one verse or set of verses describing
Krishna that you find either very powerful, beautiful, or intriguing. The verse you choose will be used for an activity in class.
Overarching questions:
1. Why do you think Arjuna needs to "see" Krishna in this way? If he understands perfectly everything that Krishna has taught (a big assumption, I know), what does he hope this vision will add to that understanding?
2. What kind of physical responses and actions are described in the chapter?
3. The vision is meant to be described in majestic and beautiful imagery. What images are used, though, that do not resonate with you, perhaps seeming ugly or out of place?
4. What images in the chapter are described as fearful? What role does fear play in this vision of the divine? Do you think fear is an important part of any religious experience?
5. Once he returns to his original form, why does Krishna say Arjuna has been granted this vision?
