How does the US ultimately benefit from Japan's isolationism?
Homework:
Note that you have two options for your hw tonight.
For this assignment, you will be reading about developments in Japan during period C and early period D. You do not need to read the last two pages (Appendix A). We will work on this in class. As you read this assignment, consider these three essential questions.
1. In what ways was Japan very different from other civilizations we have studied? Why do you think Japan was determined to be different?
2. What is the significance of Christianity in Japan's history? How does the San Felipe incident affect Japanese perceptions of the non-Japanese world?
3. How does the US ultimately benefit from Japan's isolationism?
Option 1: After you read, you should write responses to the overarching questions in a google doc.
Option 2: Also, attached is a question sheet/graphic organizer. Some might find it useful in getting the important details. If you choose to complete this option instead of answering the overarching questions, upload your completed homework to google docs. You do not need to answer the final question, or read the last two pages (Appendix A). We will work on this in class.
