As we begin to study the 20th century, we also enter an era where video imagery is more available. Many events and changes in the West can be viewed in action. One of the first great examples of this is the Great War. At the link below, you will find a series of videos that make up three episodes of a documentary on the First World War.
For your homework, you should watch ONE of the three episodes in its entirety. Each episode is broken into 4 YouTube videos.
The first option is called "Stalemate" and discusses the changes that took place in the first year of the war. If you choose this one, be sure to watch all 4 videos with the word "Stalemate" in them (videos 1-4)
The second option is called "Total War" and describes the way warfare changed and affected the whole of a society. If you choose this one, be sure to watch all 4 videos with the word "Total War" in them (videos 5-8).
The third option is called "Slaughter," and it describes the never-before-seen brutality and scale of death and destruction in the Great War. If you choose this one, be sure to watch all 4 videos with the word "Slaughter" in them (videos 9-12). Note, this episode is not for the squeamish.
As you read (not after- you need to do this while watching the video), fill out the homework sheet, which asks you to capture images from the video at key points, and comment or generate questions. We will be using this, along with the reading you did at the start of our next class.
