THE FRENCH REVOLUTION ASSESSMENT
DOCUMENT-BASED QUESTION (45 minutes)
· For this assessment, you will be writing ONE in-class essay. You will receive a sheet of paper with 5-6 Documents on it. You will have up to 10 minutes to read the documents and plan your essay. Then you will have 45 minutes to write. You should expect to write 4-5 paragraphs, including a thesis and conclusion.
· You must use 5 of the 6 documents when you write your essay. When you use a document (by quoting part of it or summarizing it) you should “cite” it by writing down the document’s number at the end of the sentence. You may NOT cite multiple documents in the same sentence.
For example: Danton said that the revolutionaries should make “terror the order of the day”. (1)
· You should also expect to use your own knowledge of the Revolution to further strengthen your essay.
Your teacher will choose which question you will write on.
The two possible questions are:
1. Using these sources and your knowledge, explain what you believe to have been the most important factors leading to the Fall of the Bastille.
2. Using these sources and your knowledge, explain what you believe to have been the most important factors leading to the Terror.
You will need to prepare for both of them.
Events and concepts you will want to review in preparation for the assessment
(by doing this, you’ll recall important events, people, and things that could be relevant for your written response):
