Check out this text-to-speech converter that can be added to any Google Chrome web browser*. It will read whatever's on the page, or you can select certain text for it to read. It is great for all students, but especially helpful if they have reading difficulties. To add it, direct your students with the following directions. Here is the direct link to checkout Speakit!

Here are some directions to have your students install and use the app.

1) Start by directing your students to search google for "Speakit."

2) The first result should be "Speakit! - Chrome Web Store - Google."

3) Have students click that link, and in upper right, they can click "Add to Chrome."

4) After a series of yeses and allows, students may be asked to type in a verification code. Once completed, they are ready to use the App.

5) On any webpage, the students can select the text that they want read. Then, by clicking the Speakit! App icon on the toolbar of their Chrome web browser, the selected text will play.

*Once they add it to their Chrome web browser, it will always be available. HOWEVER, if they login to a Chromebook as a guest, or if they login on a desktop computer, they have to login to the Chrome web browser for it to appear. To login into a Chrome web browser, click on the customize button

in the upper right hand screen of Chrome, then click on Settings. At the top, they should be able to sign into the Chrome web browser.
