New to Google Classroom- Parent Notifications

Apparently, "Fall" has arrived early! In May, Google announced they would be introducing Parent Notifications in the Fall of 2016. Well, as of today, we have the capability to add and invite parents to join their student's classroom and receive email summaries. I love this feature because parents can choose to receive email notification summaries each week. I also like the fact that you can use it as a parent email list, BUT you have to understand that it will be sending from CF teachers @cftigers.org account. Which means if the parent replies, we may not see it unless we are checking. This link explains more About Guardian Summaries.

Meanwhile, you may notice this pop-up the next time you are on Google Classroom.

When you enter a classroom's stream page, click on the "Students" tab.

Next to each enrolled student, you can click to invite their guardian. It looks like each guardian's email needs to be entered manually, one at a time. It might be wise to copy and paste each of them off of ProgressBook or a team list.

You may be asked for the class to be added to guardian email summaries.

Parents will receive this invitation in their email

Once parents have accepted, they can choose daily or weekly summaries, and decide if they wish to unsubscribe. Below is an example:

Back to the classroom side, next to each student you can click on the 3 dots menu icon to email the student, email the guardian, invite more guardians, or remove a guardian.
