Dear members,

Let us start off with PRANAAMS to all the GURUs who is an embodiment of knowledge, whether it is at the spiritual level, arts or academics! And a big thanks to all our members who made an effort to attend our July event Sunday, and special hugs to all the grandmas and grandpas who sat through the performances with a big smile.

We had nine solo performances, 8 on the vocals and one veena solo. We introduced FIVE new voices, largest in CCC history in any given month, and each of our new vocalists, Yuvanand, Deeksha, Shriya, Vishnu and Rhea exhibited their talents eagerly to our friendly audience! Our hearty welcome to budding violinist Vishaka and mrudangist Arush who joined our pool this month as accompanists. Congratulations to each of our repeat performers for their beautiful renditions, Varnika (Poorvikalyani), Shivani (Charukesi), Pramati (Bhairavi) and Abirami (Saraswathi). Our accompanists, however young they are, put together a grand show month after month with a lot of practice and the growth cannot be missed, kudos to each of our 17 accompanists who brightened up the show with their support. Sashwat is back from his India trip now and will be sending his detailed notes on all the performances as soon as he is over his jet-lag as I know those who missed the event are waiting to read it to get up-to-date!

Kudos to all the performers and their accompanists for keeping very much within their assigned duration, and this helped us include an interesting and helpful session featuring three gurus, in an extended feature-a-guru segment. Vidwans Sri Srikanth Chary, Sri Shivkumar Bhat and Sri Natarajan Srinivasan shared with us how learning Carnatic music has evolved over the years and how the music teachers are different than teachers at academic institutions, and also, how parents try to imbibe our Indian culture in children by way of getting them into music classes. We sincerely thank the three teachers for giving us their valuable time and pointers from their perspective in addition to inviting students to share their viewpoints too. Congrats to students Kavya, Gaurav and Akshay for reflecting the student perspectives well, on the questions asked of them.

Our sincere thanks to super enthu audio team volunteers (MSK Balaji, Hari Kodungallur, and Ravindhran who pitched in yesterday) led by Namdev, Barath for the memorable pictures, Uma/Bhooma for the powerpoint slides, Anand G for the video recording to provide an excerpts clip for us to reminisce some moments from the event, and Latha and Sadhana for the membership log work. Big thanks to our parents Meenakshi Seshan, Arthi Narayanan, Nithya Ashok, Sujatha Ram, Sunita VK, for bringing some snacks and tea for our hard working volunteers.

Please save Sunday August 20th from 2pm to 5pm for our next event! Wishing you a wonderful rest of summer holidays!

Regards,

Padma Mohan
