Dear members,

It was indeed a grand NINTH anniversary event Sunday and thank you all for attending the event and sharing your MahaSankranthi day afternoon with us.

Each of our NINE performers in the line-up did a stellar job and there was no dull moment! Sincere thanks to the participants and their teachers for choosing compositions that fit the anniversary theme! Meenakshi’s Navagraha krithi on Lord Surya, (intro voice)Tanisha’s Mohanam, (intro voice)Viresh’s Aberi, Shashank’s Abogi (intro violin), Siddharth’s Kamalamba Navavarnam in Sree, Vittal’s Sogasuga- Sriranjani, Sashwat’s main slot exposition of Navaragamalika varnam, Ashwat’s Marubalga –Sriranjani and Kaushik’s RTP on Lord Surya made our Ninth anniversary – Pongal event such a grand one to remember.

As always, our accompanists made the various segments more enjoyable to listen to, with their superb support. We introduced Sahas on the violin and Ramanan on the Mrudangam this month and rest of them were familiar faces from our accompanist pool. However, six of them get a special mention this month because they participated in a new initiative called On-The-Spot (OTS) accompaniment. Urmika, Aparna, and Aditya on the violin, and Sriram, Pranav and Avinash on the Mrudangam all got chosen for the three vocalists (Siddharth, Sashwat and Ashwat) who had offered to perform with OTS accompanists in January. The accompanists came in totally blind to who the performer is or what the content will be(as accompanists were picked at the venue minutes before the event started) yet they all did a fantastic job accompanying their respective vocalists and this goes to show the level of talent we have within our CCC pool. Congratulations to all the performers who participated in this new initiative and you can expect more of these OTS concerts in the future too. I really hope this initiative will motivate and inspire our performers and accompanists to work harder to reach the next level, of performing without a rehearsal or advance notice of the content and be always ready for anything!!!

Our sincere thanks to our core volunteer team for helping with all of the event day logistics, rain or shine, sick or well! And special thanks to parents of Vasudha, Shashank V, Ashwat, Kaushik, and Siddharth for helping me with snacks for the kick-off meeting with teachers.
