Sports PREMIUM & PE

The main aim of Belmont’s Physical Education Curriculum is to promote a positive and enjoyable experience to physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Through careful planning and teaching of suitably differentiated physical tasks, it is intended that pupils, irrespective of their ability, will enjoy success and be motivated to develop their individual potential.

The Government is committed to funding over £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. Funding has been allocated to all maintained and state-funded schools with primary phase pupils since 2013 and continues for 2024/25.

Belmont Infants is proud to be an active school that provides an inclusive P.E. curriculum as well as a range of extra-curricular activities. We offer a range of sports for the children to participate in, these help children to understand the importance of an active lifestyle (and associated health benefits) and increase their participation in sport and exercise.  Our children develop a range of physical skills as well as learn traditional team sports such as basketball and dodge-ball.

In 2023-2024 Belmont Infant School received £17,190  from the government to support the delivery and provision of PE and sport. We use our ring-fenced government sports grant to support the delivery and provision of P.E. and sport. The grant funds the work of our specialist sports coach, Chris Ierotheiou, who teachers P.E. to all classes from Nursery to Year 2 and also supports identified individuals and smaller groups of children in extra fitness sessions to build up their confidence, gross motor skills and levels of activity.  As our children are young and we invest some of the grant in large outdoor equipment to develop their bodies during free flow play in EYFS and continuous provision in year 1  - equipment for climbing, hanging, throwing, pedaling and crawling through.

Almost all of our children (and staff) walk, cycle or scooter to school each day and we are committed to walking as much as possible – for example, we utilise the great resource of Lordship Rec for class activities and we always walk to the tube or bus stops to get further out and about.

Within our core principle of inclusivity, Belmont Infant children participate in a range of sporting events both within, and occasionally beyond, school. We hold a Sports Day in Belmont Rec each July.
