09. Cessnock Inn

Cessnock Inn was built in 1857 and was the first business in Cessnock. Sitting next to Black Creek at the junction of the roads, it is situated right on the spot where teamsters camped while travelling through. It's original licencee was Micheal Carroll and an old notebook of his gives us a little insight into business back then. It states that a bed and meal cost one shilling, rum was the most popular drink and could be bought for threepence a glass. Brandy and ale were twice this price at sixpence per glass (or half the cost of the room and meal).
