18. Coal Memorial

Just behind the roundabout, you will see a bench and an obelisk shaped stone. This is the coal memorial, which was commissioned by Rotary and originally located at the bottom of the Convent School steps to mark the beginning of the Top Greta Coal Seam. It was moved to a more prominent location by Cessnock Council in 1999 and stands as a testament to the coal mining heritage of Cessnock.
