14. Sarroff Building
The Sarroff building, opposite your starting point, is the culmination of the growth of one of the first businessmen in Vincent St, Mr Arthur Sarroff. His humble beginnings were doing business out of the back of his van back when Cessnock was in its infancy.
Unfortunately for Arthur, the first time he moved out of his van to a fixed premises, fire destroyed the building on the very first night. Undaunted, Arthur purchased the block of land opposite to the building which bears his name. This first modest shop was followed years later, in 1923, by the purchase of the land and the erection of this grand building.
